Created on Photoshop CS6

With the exponential growth of Instagram and other photo sharing platforms, now is a great time to learn how to edit photos professionally. I have included the main programs and apps we use to take raw images and make them look professional and attractive.

Desktop:

Photo editing on a desktop, laptop or Mac is definitely going to give you higher quality editing options than that of a mobile device, but you have to work with what you’ve got and mobile devices alone can still create stunning pictures. We’re going to talk about the desktop/laptop options first before we jump into some great mobile apps that will allow you to edit photos professionally.

Buy Adobe Light Room without a subscription

Adobe Photoshop CS6
Adobe Photoshop CS6 is, in my opinion, the number one software for graphic design. It is a complete program which allows you to create incredible images. It is more used for graphic designers than post production of photos, but photoshop is able to offer many options for creating incredible photo edits and eye-popping images. You can download photoshop here. There is a monthly or annual subscription, unfortunately it is not free, but it’s worth every penny if you’re serious about graphic design, photo editing and post production.

Adobe Light Room CC
Light Room CC is one of the best post-production tools for photo editing. It offers all the best tools you could ever need for turning dull dark pictures into something beautiful for sharing with the world. Adobe Light Room is free on the mobile app store, but the desktop version isn’t, though it is worth the spend. You can download Light Room here.

Post Production created on Light Room (A) & Affinity Photo (B)

Affinity Photo
This is the final option I would like to share, not because it is different or better than the Adobe options, but it’s a one-off purchase and a lot cheaper. It doesn’t have quite as many features as Photoshop and Light Room combined, but it isn’t far behind and instead of a monthly spend, you can pick up Affinity Photo for a one off payment of $49 by clicking here.

Mobile:

If you want to learn how to edit photos professionally then the desktop is the best option, but if you’re someone that doesn’t own a desktop or you simply prefer the convenience and mobility of using a mobile device to do all your photos and edits, then here are some great options…

Adobe Light Room CC App
This is the same software as the desktop version, but the app is free! That’s right, you can own this incredible photo editing software for free on the app store.

FaceTune 1 & 2
If you’re looking for a photoshop/affinity like app for your phone, you may want to consider Facetune 1 & 2 for your photo edits. It is more on the graphic design side as you can manipulate the photos with liquify style tools and content aware correction, but it also has some good editing tools for color enhancement and all the usual post production tools. FaceTune is a free app, as is Facetune 2, but the second really requires an upgrade to the paid version as the free version is very limited.

Now you have all the top tools the professionals use, it’s time to play around with them and make some crazy cool photo edits. You can learn everything you need to know from Youtube, but if you would like me to create a post on how we edit our pictures, leave a comment below.
